One Vehicle, Up to Eleven People, One Fare Agreed by Phone
Splitting a group across two or three cars to get to Melbourne Airport costs more and means organising several drivers for the same flight. A maxi taxi, or maxi cab, keeps everyone together, keeps the luggage with the people it belongs to, and gives you one price, confirmed with you before you travel.
Our maxi cabs seat up to eleven passengers and take eight large bags at the same time, which is the job a minibus airport transfer does, booked the same way as any other taxi. Carry fewer people and the spare seats go to luggage instead. They suit families travelling together, sporting groups, corporate teams heading to the same flight, and anyone moving skis, golf clubs or instruments. Which Vehicle Suits Your Group
People look for this in different ways: a 7 seater taxi, a 9 seater taxi, a people mover or a van taxi. In our fleet the maxi is the vehicle that does all of those jobs. We do not run a separate seven or nine seat vehicle, so any group of five or more travels in a maxi.

The SUV and wagon seats four, the same as a sedan. What it adds is boot space, and it carries the same $17.80 surcharge as the maxi, so a fifth passenger never needs a second car: book the maxi. For twelve or more, ask for a quote and we send the vehicles to arrive together on one fare for the whole job.
What a Maxi Taxi or Maxi Cab Costs
A maxi is priced the same way as every other vehicle we run: a flag fall, a rate per kilometre and the toll, all worked out on the real driving distance to the terminal. The only difference is a set maxi surcharge of $17.80 on top, the same whatever the distance. On a short run from Essendon it is the same $17.80 as on a long run from Geelong.
The sample fares further down this page are ranges, because the exact figure depends on your pickup address. When you book we call you to agree a fixed fare, tolls included, before you travel. Against two standard taxis for the same group a maxi is cheaper on every airport run, because two cars pay the flag fall, the distance and the toll twice.
When to Book One
- Families of five or more. Prams, car seats and checked bags all fit in one vehicle rather than being split up.
- Groups with a lot of luggage. Skis, golf clubs, instruments and oversized cases need boot space that a sedan does not have.
- Corporate teams on the same flight. Everyone arrives together, and the whole trip goes on one fare and one Cabcharge transaction rather than several.
- Early morning departures. One pickup at one address beats coordinating three drivers at 4am.
Booking Ahead Matters for a Maxi
Maxis are a smaller part of any Melbourne fleet than sedans, so one needs to be allocated to your trip in advance. For an early morning flight we recommend booking the day before. For a group of eight or more, give us as much notice as you can.
Add your flight number when you book and we track it at no extra cost. If your flight lands early or runs late, your driver is already working to the new time.
Travelling with a small child in the maxi? Tell us the age and rough weight when you book and the correct restraint is fitted before we arrive. If the group is small enough for one car and you would rather the whole vehicle to yourselves, that is a private transfer.
