Almost Everyone on This Route Has a Train to Catch
This is the one airport trip where arriving early matters more than anything else. Regional V/Line services to Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Traralgon and Warrnambool all leave from Southern Cross, most of them hourly or less often, and they do not wait. Missing one is not a twenty minute problem, it is an hour or an evening.
Tell us your train time and we work backwards from it rather than from your landing time. It is a different calculation and it is the one that matters here.
The Right End of a Very Long Building
Southern Cross runs the length of Spencer Street and has separate concourses for regional and metropolitan services. Being dropped at the wrong end means the full length of the station with your bags before you have even found the platform. Tell us which service you are catching.
The Fastest Route We Publish
At 18 km and around 18 minutes off peak, this is the quickest of our named routes, because Spencer Street sits on the western edge of the city and the freeway delivers you almost to it without crossing the grid.
Why People Take a Taxi to the Station the Bus Also Serves
The airport bus terminates at Southern Cross too, which makes this the honest comparison. The bus is cheaper. It also runs to its own timetable, fills up at busy periods, and leaves you at the bus bays rather than at your platform. If you are connecting to a booked regional service with luggage, the certainty is usually worth more than the difference.
