Silver Service Taxi Melbourne

A Step Up, for When the Arrival Matters

Silver Service is the premium tier inside our taxi fleet. It is a licensed Melbourne taxi, booked and paid for exactly like any other, but the car is a newer sedan kept to a higher presentation standard inside and out, and it is allocated to a driver with a longer record with us. It takes four passengers with two large and two small bags, the same as a standard taxi. What changes is the car that turns up and who is driving it.

The surcharge is a flat $11 on top of the standard fare. It does not scale with distance, so on a longer airport run it is a small part of the total. The fare table further down this page puts the standard and Silver Service estimates side by side for the city and the inner business suburbs.

What Is Different

  • The car. A newer sedan, kept to a higher presentation standard inside and out.
  • The driver. Allocated to drivers with a longer record with us, which matters most on corporate and client facing work.
  • The price. A flat $11 more than a standard taxi, on a short run or a long one.

What Is Included

Everything that comes with a standard booking comes with Silver Service too, at no extra charge unless a price is shown here.

  • Flight tracking. Add your flight number when you book and we follow the arrival, so an early or delayed landing is handled for you and you are not charged waiting time for a delay outside your control.
  • Booking at any hour. Online or by phone, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Payment your way. Pay in the car by cash or card, use Cabcharge, or put the trip on a corporate account if you hold one. Nothing is charged when you book.
  • The trip home in the same booking. Add a return trip when you book and both legs are arranged together.
  • Baby seats. A child seat can be fitted for $40 per seat, ready before the car arrives.
  • Meet and greet. Optional, for $35, explained below.

Meet and Greet at Melbourne Airport

On a standard airport pickup your driver meets you at the taxi rank outside your terminal and texts you the bay before you land. Meet and greet brings the driver inside instead. They wait in the terminal with a name sign, then help with your bags on the way out to the car. It suits a guest who has never met the driver, a first visit to Melbourne, or anyone landing with a lot of luggage.

  • Price. $35 on top of the fare, covering up to one hour of waiting inside the terminal.
  • Timing. Because we track your flight, the driver works to the actual landing time rather than the time on the booking.
  • Any vehicle. Meet and greet is not limited to Silver Service. It can be added to a standard taxi, the SUV or the maxi as well.
  • How to add it. Ask for it in the notes for your driver when you book, or when you call us, and we confirm it with you when we call to confirm the booking.

When It Is Worth It

For a routine trip to the airport, a standard sedan does the same job for $11 less and we will tell you that. Silver Service earns its surcharge when someone else is in the car: a client arriving from interstate, a candidate coming in for an interview, a guest travelling to a wedding, or an executive who needs to arrive composed.

It is also the option most people choose for the trip home after a long haul flight, where the difference between a tidy car and a tired one is more noticeable than usual.

Questions

Silver Service Questions

What is the difference between Silver Taxi and a standard sedan?
Silver Taxi is our premium sedan option: a newer car presented to a higher standard and allocated to a driver with a longer record with us, for a flat $11 more than the standard fare. Capacity, booking and payment work the same as a standard taxi.
How much more does Silver Service cost?
A flat $11 on top of the standard fare, regardless of distance. It is the smallest surcharge we carry, and it is part of the fare we confirm with you, never added at the end.
How many passengers does a Silver Service car take?
Four, the same as a standard taxi, with two large and two small bags. If you need more luggage space, take the SUV, which carries the same four passengers with four large and three small bags. If you need more than four seats, take the maxi, which carries up to eleven.
When is Silver Service worth booking?
When the arrival itself matters: collecting a client, travelling to something formal, an important meeting straight off a flight, or any trip you would rather felt less like a taxi. For a family run to the airport a standard taxi does the same job for $11 less.
Can I add meet and greet to a Silver Service booking?
Yes. For $35 your driver waits inside the terminal with a name sign for up to an hour and helps with your bags. It is available on every vehicle, not only Silver Service. Ask for it in the notes when you book or when you call, and we confirm it with you.
Is Silver Service the same as a chauffeur car?
No. Silver Service is a licensed taxi in a newer car with a senior driver, booked and priced like any other taxi booking with us. A chauffeur car is a hire car: a luxury vehicle with a suited driver and no taxi markings. The chauffeur service is the step above this one.
Can I book Silver Service at short notice?
Usually yes, and it is the easiest of the premium options to get at short notice. For a specific time on an early morning departure, book the day before.

Worked example: Southbank to the airport, Silver Service
Flag fall $5.25
Distance (26.2 km at $2.34 per km) $61.31
Toll $10
Silver Service $11
Calculated fare $88

Every price on this site is worked out the same way: a $5.25 flag fall, $2.34 per kilometre on the real driving distance and the toll, with the set $11 added for Silver Service. The table shows a range around that figure, here $83 to $102, because the exact pickup point and the route on the day move it a little.
